In 2011 we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) at its Paris headquarters.  It was based on the work of the WSAVA One Health Committee (OHC), particularly in the area of canine rabies control.  Two years later the OHC and OIE hosted a joint meeting on rabies at which the target for the global elimination of the disease by 2030 was first set.  We continue to work with OIE on canine rabies elimination, antimicrobial resistance and animal welfare.

Being friendly to cats... is it worth the effort?

Is it worth the effort for a practice to become certified as ‘cat friendly’? Pere Mercader, veterinarian and business expert, looked at the data from 24 certified cat friendly practices (CFP) in Spain and compared the results with non-certified clinics which had similar parameters (location, size, etc). The answer is a clear yes, as cat owners will visit a CFP on average 30% more often than an uncertified clinic, generating a significant increase in business. For instance, 40% more owners will buy food at a ‘cat friendly’ practice when compared to other clinics.
